More often, people confused vaginal yeast infection from other vaginal infections and treat it as a sexually transmitted disease. This is understandable because the symptoms of yeast infection are almost the same with other infections: itchiness, soreness, burning sensation and discomfort.

However it should not be treated the same way and it should not be ignored. Otherwise, it can cause more complications and the symptoms will be much more difficult to treat. Treatment of vaginal yeast infection is easy if people just have an idea on the root causes of this infection.

Yeast infection, scientifically known as Candidiasis, is caused by yeast or fungi from the Candida species. Most often, the Candida Albicans is responsible for the infection. These fungi dwell naturally in the human body. The infection only strikes after an abnormality in the natural balance of the fungi and bacteria occur.

Since yeast infection is cause by fungi, it should not be treated with medication for killing bacteria. Yeast and fungi are not the same. If you try to treat yeast infection with medication for killing bacteria, it is more likely that the symptoms of yeast infection will become too severe. For instance, antibiotics are not highly recommended for women with yeast infection due to its ability to kill both bad and good bacteria. As the number of good bacteria is reduced, the fungi reproduce gradually causing yeast infection.

However, what causes the fungi to reproduce inappropriately? There are numerous answers for this question but one possible vital explanation is the speed of the reproduction of fungi increases as the amount of good bacteria in the body is reduced. On other words, there are not enough good bacteria to balance out the effect of the fungi. As the fungi grow in number, the symptoms of yeast infection will gradually show.

The bottom line is, to treat yeast infection, you have to either increase the number of good bacteria in your body or kill the fungi to reduce their number. For instance, drinking yogurt helps increase the number of good bacteria in your body while eating garlic can help reduce the number of fungi. If you think you have yeast infection, it is wise that you seek medical help immediately.
