Most women need just the right amount of nutrients to keep the baby and themselves happy. As a pregnant women, you need protein, vitamin D, calcium, iron and folic acid in just the correct amounts. These are essential to supporting a growing baby. You will also need to eat goods that are nutrient dense so that you will not over eat calories.

Pregnant women need to eat at least five portions of fruits and vegetables every day. This will help you take in enough fiber and calcium. You can also get calcium for dairy products, such as milk, yogurt and cheese. Make sure that these are all low fat so you don’t take in too many calories at one time.

Fish and seafood are great while pregnant. The only problem is that you need to stay away from the fish that contain too much mercury. High mercury levels are never good for an unborn baby. Some fish to stay away from are salmon and tuna.

Iron and folic acid are crucial when you are pregnant. Doctors will usually prescribe these as supplements so that they can make sure that the pregnant women is getting enough. You can also find folic acid in dark green vegetables and juice. Iron can be found in breads, cereals and red meat.

Some things that you need to avoid while you are pregnant are unpasteurized cheeses and fish with mercury. Deli meats and undercooked meat needs to be avoided. Undercooked eggs should also not be eaten while pregnant.

Women need a nutrient dense diet full of protein, calcium, fiber and iron to help ensure that your baby is healthy. If you have any questions about this, ask your doctor. They will be more than willing to help you come up with a sensible diet.

When you are pregnant, there are many things to consider. Eating healthy is one of the most important things that you can do for your baby. Nine months is really not that long to change your eating habits for the health of your unborn baby. It is really worth it.
