In their lifetimes over 60% of men will experience hair loss, baldness and thinning hair in some form or other. It is not just men that experience thinning hair but women too with it being estimated that over 35 % will also experience thinning hair in some form or other.
The market for hair loss and hair thickening products is estimated to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars every single year. This is not surprising given the emotional attachment we often have with our hair and the resultant loss of self esteem that some feel when their hair starts thinning or falling out.
There are lots of different factors and reasons as to why hair falls out or starts thinning. These include a diet that is not balanced and particularly one lacking in adequate amounts of protein, stress and an imbalance of hormones and pollution.
The FDA has only given its approval to the treatments Minoxidil and Finasteride to combat hair loss. They have both undergone rigorous testing to be able to gain this approval. Minoxidil can be used by males and females and Finasteride can be used just by men.
Finasteride works by inhibiting the production of a hormone called Dht. Dht attacks the hair follicle and makes in shrink. Dht is produced by testosterone. Finasteride is taken in tablet form, daily. Minoxidil works by increasing the flow of blood to the hair follicle, this is believed to be able to slow down or halt further thinning and hair loss in some cases.
Of course there are thousands of other products that claim to be able to halt further hair loss, regrow and thicken hair working in various ways. If one does decide to try one of these products the ingredients contained in them should be investigated beforehand for health and safety reasons.
Hair pieces and wigs are also another alternative remedy for thinning hair that some might consider. So too are cosmetic hair thickening products.
Wigs are also another option for those wishing to have the appearance, at least, of a thick, healthy head of hair. Wigs have improved a lot in the past ten years and can be very convincing even close up. The best ones allow you to do all of the leisure activities you would be able to with a natural head of hair. The best ones can cost thousands of dollars and may have maintenance fees, these issues should be serious considerations to anyone thinking of purchasing wigs or hairpieces.
Hair thickening products that increase density and thickness cosmetically are another remedy for thinning hair. These come in different varieties such as hair thickening sprays, shampoos, serums and conditioners as well as hair thickening microfiber products. They usually work in a manner similar to mascara does on eyelashes in that thAey add some kind of ingredient or serum to thinning hairs to give an overall thickening effect. Of course one should be fully aware of any ingredients contained in any of these before trying them.
