Other than the fact both medications are used for pain, they are not the same. They each have situations when they should and should not be used. It’s like the difference between Tylenol and aspirin. Consult your doctor to find out the differences and advise you in your decision as to which pain medication would be right for you.
Fioricet is a combination of acetaminophen, butalbital, and caffeine that is used to relieve tension headaches. Celebrex is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is used to relieve the pain of arthritis and menstrual cramps. Those are two entirely different conditions but for some reason people think that these two drugs are interchangeable. They are not, and taking them improperly can cause serious internal damage.
What happens is that an individual suffering from pain of some kind takes whatever medication is in the house and doesn’t get any relief, so he or she takes more, thinking that another dose might do the trick. Fioricet needs to be taken with food and can cause lightheadedness or drowsiness. Celebrex can cause liver, kidney or gastrointestinal discomfort or even failure if used improperly.
Take Tylenol for a headache. Take aspirin for inflammation. That’s a good general rule of thumb unless your doctor tells you to avoid one or the other. Fioricet has acetaminophen in it, so it classifies as Tylenol. Celebrex is an NSAID, similar to Ibuprofen, so it can be classed as an aspirin. Both are respectively more more powerful than their counterparts and both should not be substituted for the other or taken in excessive amounts.
