Hemorrhoids: Simple Treatments and Remedies

When blood veins around the rectum and anus swell and become inflamed you have a case of hemorrhoids. This condition is also known as the piles. Symptoms associated with hemorrhoids include pain, itching and bleeding. You might be surprised at how common hemorrhoids are.

Cases of hemorrhoids range from very mild to very severe. When caught early, there are home remedies that you can try to care for the symptoms on your own, in the privacy of your own home.

One, don’t use rough toilet paper. This is a fast way to irritate hemorrhoids. Scented toilet paper can do the same. It is best to use plain, soft, white toilet paper or moist wipes.

When you have to lift heavy objects bend at the knees. Never lift with your back, and do not hold your breath when you are lifting. These improper lifting techniques place a great deal of pressure and strain on your hemorrhoids. Try to avoid lifting heavy objects at all when you have hemorrhoids. If you must lift, be sure to use good lifting techniques.

Don’t allow hemorrhoids to keep you from being active. In fact, it is better for you to keep blood flowing by exercising a little every day. Of course, exercise should be in moderation when you are experiencing hemorrhoids.

Your diet should be rich in fiber naturally from fruits and vegetables, but it is also a good idea to invest in a good, quality multi-vitamin and mineral supplement. This is one of the best ways to ensure that you are consuming all of your daily nutritional requirements. Include an iron supplement for healthy blood.

Don’t take harsh over the counter laxatives. These products tend to cause diarrhea. When you feel constipated use a natural laxative. Prunes, flax seed oil, and dandelion root extract work well and can be found in most health food stores.

Use a cushion when you have to sit on a hard surface. Use a regular cushion, not the donut cushion designed for hemorrhoid patients. A donut cushion actually does more harm than good to your condition. It restricts blood flow and places more pressure on the varicose veins. Donut cushions cost $25 to $30, and are a waste of money.

Always remember to check with your doctor before you take any kind of medical remedy, including over-the-counter or herbal remedies. Each individual’s body is different, as is their medical situation. You and your doctor can best decide the course of action for you.
